Alejandro Garnacho has been put under intense scrutiny regarding his ego amid a potential move to Chelsea from Man United.

A member of the infamously-dubbed “bomb squad”, the Argentinian is high on the Red Devils’ agenda to ship off this window.

Coming through the United academy, the 21-year-old had a solid start to life in Manchester but after the exit of Erik ten Hag, the winger began to butt heads with Ruben Amorim.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 8 August that Chelsea will have to increase their valuation of Alejandro Garnacho by £10million if they are to reach an agreement with United.

This comes after an original £40m bid which was below the red half of Manchester’s valuation, despite that fact some pundits are warning against bringing in the hot-headed attacker.

Discussing the Argentine’s transfer situation amid a possible move to south London on talkSPORT (8 August), journalist Alex Crook and ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney considered the ongoing saga.

The former Hornet highlighted that Garnacho’s past actions may affect his reputatio, he said: “While he [Garnacho] may feel he is relevant and people are talking about him, do you think actual football directors and the smart people in football are going ‘I don’t know if I want to bring that in the building?'”

He added: “The problem you’ve got now…if you’re Chelsea, you’ve just won the Club World Cup, your team looks solid and in a really good position, a young squad that’s coming together.

“Again, all the actions you’ve seen from him [Garnacho] falling out about not being picked in the [Europa League] final, why would you want to add that into the group and that temperament might change because he is not going to play week-in week-out.”

Crook responded regarding his ego and discipline: “I think someone needs to get a hold of him and tell him he’s not Ronaldo 2.0.”

Deeney suggested that bringing in the Argentina international would be a mistake

Undoubtedly, there is a talented footballer somewhere in the 21-year-old and clearly his time at Old Trafford is up.

Yet, I don’t think heading to the Blues will solve his career given Enzo Maresca is a similar tricky manager who wears his heart on his sleeve and demands lots from his players both in application and performance.

If the number 17 doesn’t get his act together if he moves to Chelsea, I could easily see the Italian coach laying into him and potentially isolating him from the squad.

However, Jadon Sancho supposedly presented himself in a similar manner at Old Trafford to the five-foot-eleven winger but fared not too badly during his short-term spell in West London.

Garnacho is at a key point in his career where he has to decide whether he’ll mature and knuckle down on the training ground or complain into oblivion.
