The new Premier League season is underway and there are already some big games to look forward to.

Liverpool’s title defence has started and even though it began with a victory at Anfield, there were clear signs that work needs to be done.

New additions are still needed despite spending almost £300m this summer, with both ends of the pitch needing some work.

The Reds’ fixtures do not get much easier either, with Arne Slot’s side facing Newcastle and Arsenal before the international break.

The Magpies in particular are one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the new season due to the speculation surrounding Alexander Isak, with neutrals hoping for a feisty game under the lights.

Players clearly have similar feelings too, with Anthony Gordon predicting that things might get a little ‘wild’.

Isak to Liverpool is the transfer saga of all transfer sagas, with it causing a real impact on both clubs’ summers, but especially Newcastle.

A day does not go by where some sort of update is not issued, with both Eddie Howe and their fans probably reaching tipping point as the situation continues to drag on.

And, with Newcastle hosting Liverpool in gameweek two of the season, chatter around Isak is only getting greater, with everyone knowing that this game at St James’ Park might be one of the most hostile atmospheres all season.

It’s gonna be a top game,” he told TNT Sports on Saturday.

Gordon, who himself almost joined Liverpool last summer, played through the middle in Isak’s absence, with Newcastle fans likely even more frustrated with Isak, as they probably would have won the game if he played.

The Newcastle players might feel a little let down by Isak this summer, giving them even more incentive to beat Liverpool and show why making the move is silly.

Dan Burn is a player who has helped the Magpies beat the Reds before, and speaking after the game on Saturday, he is ready to do that again with the support of the fans behind him.

“Yeah, probably [the game will be spicy],” he said.

“We have beaten Liverpool in the final but apart from that, we’ve never beaten them in the league.

“This is something we have targeted and wanted to do, and I think everything that may have gone on this off season will make it a good game.
