Alexander Isak could get his first taste of the Merseyside derby for Liverpool but head coach Arne Slot failed to be drawn on his involvement.

The Reds' £125million man made his bow for the Premier League champions in their dramatic 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Isak was withdrawn shortly before the hour mark as he integrates into the new set-up and builds up his match fitness after his preparations for the new season were impacted by the transfer saga with Newcastle United.

Ahead of the first meeting between Merseyside's top two clubs, Fantasy Premier League players will be mulling over whether to risk including Isak in their teams after his 58-minute cameo against Diego Simeone's side.

However, Slot didn't give too much away as he played a straight bat over whether the Sweden international will make the starting line-up.

"I don’t think I tell the media a lot the day before the game, how we start the game!" said the Dutchman.

"We had recovery yesterday, we’re going to train this afternoon.

"So first of all we have to see how they all feel.

What I do know is that Alex did feel his body more maybe than ever before after the 60 minutes he played.

"So let’s see how he’s recovered today and then we’ll think about the line-up, mainly today, and you will hear it tomorrow."

All eyes will be on the team news when supporters will learn whether Hugo Ekitike maintains his starting position in the Premier League.
