Newcastle striker William Osula could be set for a Newcastle exit as well as Eddie Howe tries to navigate a crisis amid Alexander Isak’s ongoing transfer saga.
Newcastle’s summer transfer window has been dominated by Isak’s ongoing desire to leave the club to join Liverpool.
Howe has eyed up a number of strikers for the club to sign in his place, but the Magpies have continually missed out on their targets so far, with Osula the only other number nine at the club as it stands.
The 22-year-old, who joined Newcastle for £15million [BBC] from Sheffield United last summer, was limited to just 14 league appearances in his debut campaign, and started on the bench against Aston Villa last week with Anthony Gordon thrust out of position at centre-forward.
Osula failed to impress in pre-season with Isak absent, and despite him still pushing for a move away and Newcastle still being yet to sign a new forward, the Dane could be on his way out of St James’ Park very soon.

Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed, via X (23 August), that Osula is of interest to German giants Bayer Leverkusen, and they have him on their radar, but no move for his services is advanced as yet.
He states that the 22-year-old’s could leave Newcastle “in the coming days,” and his situation is one to watch up until Deadline Day on 1 September, but it is unclear whether he would be set to depart on loan or permanently.

While Osula is clearly not rated enough by Magpies boss Howe to be handed starts in the Premier League as yet, it would seem pretty short-sighted for the club to look to let him leave before they have even signed a new out-and-out centre-forward.
Isak seems highly unlikely to feature anytime soon amid his stand-off with the club over a move to Liverpool, which has seemingly left Gordon to be Howe’s starting striker despite his preferred position being left-wing.

Newcastle recently saw a third bid to sign Yoane Wissa rejected by Brentford, and the Magpies have eyed up a move for Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, but will reportedly have to fork out £60m for his services this late in the window.
It is clear that no new striker signings are imminent as it stands, and so even though Osula should be allowed to depart on loan for game-time at some point soon, they should only let him go if they have adequate depth up-front.
Howe is already short after seeing Callum Wilson depart and the Isak situation has pushed that to breaking point, so without reinforcements it seems inconceivable for him to let Osula go too.
