Florian Wirtz insists he isn’t thinking about his Liverpool price tag.
Wirtz became Anfield’s record signing this summer in an initial £100 million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen which could potentially rise to £116M.
The Germany international offered fans a glimpse of his talent as Arne Slot’s side ran out winners in both of Monday’s friendlies with Athletic Bilbao.
But Wirtz is adamant the figures involved in his move has no bearing on his approach as the Premier League champions aim to retain their title.
He said: “I don’t think about it.
“I just want to play football and how much money the clubs pay between each other, it doesn’t matter.
“Of course the big challenge is to win the title again and it is the most difficult thing so (I will) try and just create chances and also work against the ball.
“I can also run a lot so (I will) bring this to the team and then with the ball I can make the team better and bring my team-mates into better situations.
“I came because I thought I could fit in this team and I am enjoying to play with these players and getting every time a little bit better so I am happy with how it is going.”
Wirtz was a potent threat during his time with Leverkusen with 57 goals in 197 appearances as he helped them to the Bundesliga title two seasons ago.
And the 22-year-old has set out his stall for what supporters can expect from him after taking ownership of Luis Diaz’s former no.7 shirt with the Reds.
“I am a player who needs freedom on the pitch and the manager gives it to me because I have to respect the position and the players around me,” added Wirtz.
“I will try to find the right places to be and the right spaces to get the ball and to be dangerous and create chances.
“I have not played a match in the Premier League but I am looking forward [to it] and that is why I came.”
Wirtz is in good company with several of his new teammates previously making the move to the Premier League from the Bundesliga in recent years.
Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have both adapted to English top flight and the new arrival feels he can similarly bed into his new surroundings.
“There are some differences to in Germany,” admitted Wirtz.
“But I think there are is also something I can learn and make me better so I am really looking forward to it.
“They tell me it’s more intense and more physical, every player is really strong, really fast.
“That is what everybody is telling me and I am well.”
