The Magpies’ concrete interest in the 24-year-old Norway international could prove so important for Liverpool’s long-running chase of Alexander Isak.
Newcastle tabled a £55 million bid for Strand Larsen late on Tuesday, only for Wolves to swiftly reject the approach.
The proposal, which included minimal add-ons, was deemed “nowhere near” the Premier League club’s valuation, with Wolves adamant that the striker – who has already netted twice in their Carabao Cup win over West Ham – is integral to Vitor Pereira’s plans this season.
But according to the Wolves manager himself, a transfer cannot be ruled out as “every player has a price”:
“I don’t know, I’m not the owner.
Until now, Jorgen is our player, we’ll see what happens,” replied Pereira when quizzed on the future of the Norway international.
“Football is football and every player has a price, even (Lionel) Messi or Cristiano (Ronaldo)?
There are players I have known in this situation and they just ask me not to play but Jorgen Strand Larsen wants to play every time.”
“Football is football and we must be ready for everything.”
Newcastle’s attempts to secure Brentford’s Yoane Wissa have also been met with resistance.
The Magpies have had multiple bids dismissed, with their most recent offer consisting of £35 million plus £5 million in add-ons being turned down.
Should Strand Larsen’s signature materialize, or should Newcastle finally clinch Wissa, the door would swing open for Liverpool to launch a fresh bid for Isak – potentially setting a British transfer record.
Eddie Howe, who has acknowledged Newcastle are in a “lose-lose situation” over Isak’s future, has kept discussions about the striker’s stance strictly between the club’s hierarchy and the player.
