Liverpool may be Premier League champions, but they will look to strengthen multiple areas of the squad this summer.
The full-back areas will be of particular importance with Trent Alexander-Arnold on his way to Real Madrid, and Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas both entering the final two years of their respective contracts at the start of next season.
Two years is a lot of time to play with, but it has ben the level of performances from the left-back duo that may sway Arne Slot to make a signing in that department this summer.
Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas have both battled to hold don the starting left-back spot this season, and that has predominantly been down to neither of the two impressing enough to have a sustained period of the time in the team.
With Andy Robertson being the confirmed number one left-back for many years now, it has only relly been this season that we have begun to see that his age is getting to him.
In football, that happens a lot, and with Tsimikas always viewed mostly as a squad player, it could open the door for a left-back to come in and fight for that starting spot.
Wolves currently employ the highly rated left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The Algerian defender has been a stand out for Wolves this season, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in thirty-five games in 2024/25 – numbers that have attracted the interest of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
His versatility in terms of his attacking threat and defensive solidity has made him a desirable asset for Liverpool.
However, this week Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has expressed his desire to keep Rayan Ait-Nouri beyond this summer’s transfer window, highlighting the player as a key part of the manager’s long-term plans.
“He’s a top player and we want to keep our best players.
The target is to keep our best players and to bring in not too many players because then we would have to start again.”
“He can give us a lot and he can give us even more than he has this season because I believe that next season he can create different solutions, and I will do it with him.”
Liverpool and Manchester United are long term admirers of the play who is currently under contract with Wolves until 2026.
Whilst Wolves are understandably keen to keep their core intact, it remains to be seen whether a potential approach from Liverpool could be just too much to convince the left-back to stay at Molineux.
