Wolves are exploring further tributes for Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who both died in a car crash on July 3 in the Spanish province of Zamora.

Supporters of the club have since paid their respects and left tributes outside the stadium.

Wolves have confirmed that they will begin carefully “removing and preserving” items from the tribute area to protect them from damage from heavy rain.

The club have also encouraged fans to visit today if they wish to view the tributes before the anticipated weather conditions change.

A statement from Wolves read: “The club is truly grateful to everyone who has visited to pay their respects, and to those who have left messages, shirts, scarves and flowers in Diogo’s memory.

The outpouring of love has been a source of comfort to all who knew him.

“With heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast in the coming days, staff have begun carefully removing and preserving items from the tribute area to protect them from damage.

Supporters are encouraged to visit today (Monday, 14th July) if they wish to view the tributes before the anticipated weather condition changes.

“All non-perishable items will be carefully stored and will be retained for potential inclusion in a more permanent memorial, which the club is now exploring as a lasting way to honour Diogo and André.

“Floral tributes will also be gathered and will be turned into coloured ink, which can then be used as part of a bespoke artwork or tribute.

Further details will be shared once plans are confirmed.

“Diogo and André’s passing will also be marked at two of Wolves’ upcoming home fixtures – the final home friendly against Celta Vigo and opening Premier League match against Manchester City.

“The club is working closely with supporters to ensure both tributes are fitting of Diogo’s legacy at Wolves, with the main commemorations planned for the Man City fixture?

Full details will be shared with supporters ahead of the games.

“Thank you once again for your compassion, care and respect during this difficult time.”

It was an emotional day for Liverpool on Sunday as it marked the first match since the tragic passing of Jota and Silva.

The Reds saw off Preston North End 3-1, and before the match,  there were emotional renditions of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love and Liverpool club anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Liverpool have, meanwhile, retired Jota’s number 20 shirt across all areas of the club.
