Wolves have been told that they have bigger issues than tying Jorgen Strand Larsen down to a new contract.

Strand Larsen was heavily linked with Newcastle United over the summer, but the Midlands side rejected all approaches for their centre-forward.

In the end, Newcastle opted for Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade to replace Alexander Isak, but it has left Vitor Pereira’s side concerned about the future of their star striker.

Wolves are working on a new deal with Strand Larsen, in the hope of reaching an agreement in the coming weeks.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – doesn’t believe that the 25-year-old’s contract extension is a priority.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Strand Larsen is unlikely to attract more interest in January, and that the Newcastle situation was a one-time thing.

Wolves currently sit bottom of the Premier League with no points from four games, after what has been a terrible start to the season.

Wyness added that Pereira’s side have bigger issues away from Strand Larsen’s contract situation.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think there’ll be any more interest unless he really does well.

I think he’s going to be a decent performer for Wolves, but they’ve got other bigger issues as well.

“I think they’re probably best to get some sort of settled contract with him.

I don’t think he’s going to be in big demand.

I think the Newcastle situation was the one that was really the potential way out for him.

“I don’t think there’ll be that many Newcastle-type situations coming up.
