Wolves manager Vitor Pereira’s summer transfer business could have unearthed a new star who can step in for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Strand Larsen was pursued by Newcastle towards the end of the transfer window, with Wolves rebuffing bids for the 25-year-old.

The Norwegian only signed permanently from Celta Vigo during the summer after spending last season on loan at Molineux, and Wolves now want to tie Strand Larsen down to a new deal.

Wolves were, and still are, heavily reliant on Strand Larsen for the bulk of their goals, but a late acquisition in the transfer market could change their fortunes in-front of goal.

As per The Athletic‘s Greg O’Keefe [8 September], summer arrival Tolu Arokodare could be a solution to Wolves’ goal scoring issues and relieve some of the pressure on star Strand Larsen.

Arokodare joined Wolves from Genk in a move worth just north of £20million.

O’Keefe believes Arokodare could be “the right man to revive an ailing cause,” at Wolves and “fans’ fears about this season may prove unfounded.”

Football Insider Verdict

Wolves have only scored two goals in their three Premier League games so far, and are yet to get a point on the board.

A Strand Larsen double was needed to see off West Ham in the League Cup, and Pereira’s side have so far looked short of goal scorers.

Wolves lost key players in the summer transfer window, and only time will tell how well the club have replaced them in the transfer market.

Losing Strand Larsen would have capped off a bad summer of outgoings, and Wolves want to ensure they keep the striker by offering him an improved contract.

Arokodare arrives in the Premier League off the back of a fine season in Belgium, and Pereira is hoping he can continue his strong form, potentially be a Strand Larsen replacement should he still wish to leave the club.

Strand Larsen missed Wolves’ 3-2 defeat to Everton, and is a doubt for their next match at Newcastle after the international break, which could hand Arokodare his debut.
