Wolves could face further blows in the transfer market after losing former star man Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.

The Brazilian attacker notched an impressive return of 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances last term.

Cunha’s efforts were further bolstered by the 14 goals scored by striker Jorgen Strand Larsen in 35 top-flight outings last season.

However, Strand Larsen has been eyed by Newcastle as the Magpies look to bolster their attack amid Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak.

Strand Larsen’s Wolves future may hinge on whether Newcastle can sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford after the 28-year-old scored 19 Premier League goals for the Bees last term.

Wissa’s performances in West London show that he could be ready for the challenge posed by the Champions League with the Magpies.

But if Eddie Howe’s men opt to sign Strand Larsen, Vitor Pereira’s men could be staring at a return to the Championship for the first time since winning promotion from the second tier in 2018.

Losing both the former Celta Vigo man and Cunha in the same summer would hand Wolves a significantly weaker attack than the one that kept them in the Premier League last season.

Meanwhile, former Championship duo Leeds United and Sunderland have both made eye-catching additions, such as Sean Longstaff and Granit Xhaka, respectively, since returning to the top flight.

Wolves were a serious relegation candidate last season, before Pereira joined the West Midlands club in December, steering them to 12 wins in 25 attempts.

Pereira rightfully boasts a strong reputation at Molineux, thanks to the upturn in form he was responsible for in the second half of last term.

However, if Strand Larsen joins Newcastle, the 57-year-old will struggle to make his team a genuine threat in the final third in the Premier League.

Aside from Strand Larsen, Pereira’s striking options consist of players like the injury-prone Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva, who has seldom impressed since joining Wolves in 2020.

Silva notched a respectable return of 10 goals and three assists in 24 La Liga appearances for Las Palmas last season.

However, his exploits in the Spanish top flight may not suggest he can perform in the Premier League, as he has scored just five goals for Wolves in 72 appearances.
