Wolves are set to reject the chance to sign Coventry City star Milan van Ewijk for £15million this summer despite being offered the option to secure his services.
The Molineux outfit have quietly gone about their business this summer, with a number of new signings made as Vitor Pereira aims to build on last season’s 16th-placed finish.
Matheus Cunha’s departure to join Man United has left a gap in their attack, but the Portuguese boss has moved to bolster his forward options by bringing in Jhon Arias from Fluminense and Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo.

Long-serving defender Nelson Semedo departed Wolves at the end of his contract in June, and his exit means that Pereira wants to bring in a new player at right-back soon, but it looks as if highly-rated Sky Blues man Van Ewijk will not be his replacement following new developments.
Van Ewijk’s standout form in the Championship has seen him emerge onto the radar of numerous clubs, and while the Daily Mail (6 August) claim that he has been offered to Wolves, with a £15m deal on the table, they are believed to have “other players above him” in their list of right-back targets right now.
Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg recently claimed, via X, that German side Wolfsburg are pushing to sign him and personal terms are already at an advanced stage, and so the Dutchman instead looks set to join the Bundesliga outfit.

Finding a new right-back who can also play further forward is a priority for Pereira, according to the Mail’s report, and Espanyol defender Omar El Hilali instead looks more likely to join than Van Ewijk this month.
Football Insider verdict
While Van Ewijk is yet to play in the Premier League so far in his career, his impressive showings for the Sky Blues have proven that he is above Championship level right now, and so a move to the top-flight seems like the natural next step.
Wolves would have surely been ideal from his point of view, given the locality to Coventry and their recent upwards trend under Pereira, yet they have, for whatever reason, decided against pursuing his signature.
The 24-year-old was in the 85th percentile for key passes and carries into the final third per game when compared to other second-tier right-backs in 2024/25, while he was also in the 82nd percentile for shot-creating actions per game [FBref], so his attacking talent is clear and would likely improve even further with better training methods at Wolves.

He has also been linked to Fulham this summer [Sky Sports], so it is clear that he is believed to have the quality to play in the top-flight, yet Wolves clearly believe that they can pick up a better right-back for less money over the next few weeks.
