Wolves are at risk of being left looking utterly stupid after rejecting a lucrative offer to get flop Fabio Silva off their books ahead of the upcoming season.
Transfer news has trickled out of Molineux this summer with the big money exit of Matheus Cunha to Man United making the headlines.
The Wanderers have replaced their main creator with the sleek and stylish Jhon Arias from Fluminense after he impressed in Brazil and in the Club World Cup.
Vitor Pereira has done some decent business ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, yet I’m a bit perplexed over their handling of former Porto flop Fabio Silva.

Silva received interest from Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt, but a new report by The Express (8 August) claims Borussia Dortmund sent an offer worth £17.3million in total for his signature.
The proposal comes off the back of a solid season for the forward, who netted 10 times for La Liga side Las Palmas on-loan.

Given the Portuguese cost the Midlands side £35m when he joined back in September 2020 (BBC Sport), recouping nearly half of his original figure, it seems wild Wolves did not accept the offer and want more for Silva.
The Express’ report added that Pereira’s side value the 23-year-old at £22m despite scoring just five times since he arrived.
Moreover, The Daily Mail (7 August) added that Silva’s book value has dipped to around the £10m region and any amount above that the club receives can be jotted down as profit to use against PSR.

So, considering the quality of the forward with the financial gains being above current market value, it is barmy that Wolves are not quickly selling the ex-PSV striker.
Additionally, the six-foot-one forward has only one-year left on his contract with an option to extend (Transfermarkt), so getting rid of him makes complete financial sense.
Quite possibly, the only reason the Midlands club is holding on to him is if the manager sees him as part of his plans next season.
This is extremely hard to believe and by pushing for more money the Wanderers are potentially risking scaring off the German club after they arguably offered far more than he is actually worth.
Turning down a golden opportunity to offload one of the biggest wastes of money in the side’s recent history for a surprisingly-handsome return is laughable.

There is a world where Dortmund do not come back to the table to try and renegotiate for the 23-year-old, signifying Wolves missing out on an easy income.
Furthermore, considering the abundance of attacking talent with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Hee-chan Hwang, I can’t envision Silva wiggling his way into the first team.

Indeed, he scored 10 goals on a season-long loan to Las Palmas, but being loaned out four times during his stay at the club suggests he has never been wanted after blowing hot and cold everywhere else.
I’ll be tuned in to see if Dortmund counter with an increased bid, but the Wanderers should take the profit and run.
