Wolves are demanding more money to let Fabio Silva leave the club with Borussia Dortmund’s first bid for his services set to be knocked back.

Vitor Pereira has welcomed Silva back into the Wolves fold this summer after his impressive recent loan spell with La Liga side Las Palmas.

Silva was the Molineux outfit’s record signing when he joined for £35million [Express & Star] from Porto in 2020 at just 18-years-old, but he has struggled to ever live up to the lofty expectations set of him after his big-money move.

He has been loaned out to the likes of Anderlecht, PSV, Rangers and Las Palmas, but only succeeded at the latter with 10 goals and three assists in 24 games, and Silva particularly struggled at Ibrox as he was embroiled in a dressing-room bust-up following a controversial goal celebration.

Wolves are now looking to sell him on this summer, with Jorgen Strand Larsen reportedly not for sale, and Borussia Dortmund have entered talks with Pereira’s side to sign Silva, but now face uncertainty over a deal following new developments.

Silva has also been the subject of interest from Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt, but according to The Express (8 August), Dortmund have now sent an offer worth £17.3m for his signature, with £15.6m of the fee to be paid up front alongside a further £1.7m in potential add-ons.

Despite his future clearly being set to lie away from Molineux, their report claims that Dortmund’s proposal is set to be rejected as it does not meet Wolves’ £22m valuation of the 23-year-old, with their chiefs demanding a £17.3m fee up front for Silva and an additional £4.3m in bonuses.

Silva is yet to play in any of Wolves’ pre-season friendlies, despite joining the squad for their recent training camp in his native Portugal, so an exit looks set to be sanctioned, but Dortmund will need to raise their bid or potentially face him joining another interested club.

Football Insider verdict

Wolves should be in a relatively relaxed place when it comes to Silva and his future, but they are running a major risk by rejecting bids for his services, given his lack of impact on their team over the last few years.

The 23-year-old has played just 10 competitive games for the club’s senior side over the last three seasons, and it is solely his decent form at Las Palmas which has thrust him onto the radars of some top European clubs.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Silva’s market value has declined over time and is now around the £10m mark, so anything the club receive for him above that figure can be banked as profit against PSR.

For them to be rejecting a bid of around £17m for his services seems like a huge mistake waiting to happen, but if Dortmund do return with an approach closer to £22m, then they will surely have to accept and quickly move on, as he simply needs to get off their books as soon as possible.
