Man United players are unsure if Ruben Amorim is the right man to lead them forward with his future as boss looking massively uncertain amid their poor early season form.

Ruben Amorim has been unable to turn Man United‘s dismal fortunes around over the last 11 months since he was hired in place of Erik ten Hag at the start of November last year.

He could only lead his side to a lowly 15th-placed league finish, the club’s worst ever since the formation of the Premier League, and things have not improved any this time around.

Man United lost 3-0 to arch-rivals Man City on Sunday (14 September) to further deepen their current woes under Amorim, with just four points now taken from their first four top-flight games of the new season.

Their poor league form, added to an embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, has seen lots of speculation circulate around his future in recent days and weeks, and it looks as some of those in his squad of players are also unsure if he is the right man for the job.

A recent report revealed that Man United are thinking of sacking Amorim during the October international break, with league games against Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland to come before that.

The Daily Mail (16 September) have now also reported that some United players are “losing faith in Amorim’s methods”, and a number of figures close to the squad are becoming concerned that Amorim “hides when the going gets tough” in matches, and does not do enough to inspire his players from the touchline.

Amorim decided not to watch the penalty shootout which saw his side crash out of the cup at Grimsby, or Bruno Fernandes’ last-gasp spot-kick to win the game against Burnley, and his general demeanour while the game is ongoing has reportedly raised eyebrows within the club.

The report also states that some Old Trafford chiefs are concerned about how emotion can get the better of Amorim, especially when his team is defeated, after he strangely admitted after that loss at Grimsby that: “Sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I want to quit.”

Amorim is already clearly on borrowed time at Old Trafford, based solely off his results in charge from last season and the start of this one, but this new development could end up being the final nail in the coffin for him as United head-coach.

The players hold all the power at football clubs nowadays, and if Jim Ratcliffe and his board become aware of them not wanting to play under the Portuguese boss, then he will surely be out of the door sooner rather than later.

Key players have already been reported to be unsure of him, with captain Bruno Fernandes believed to be unhappy at being played in a deeper midfield role, while some Man United stars are thought to be perplexed at Amorim’s treatment of Kobbie Mainoo.

The writing looks to be on the wall for him right now, but he could still turn it around with wins against Chelsea, Sunderland and Brentford, although that feels highly unlikely based off the recent form guide.
