Wrexham’s fairytale lives on.

In November 2020, American actor Rob McElhenney and Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham Football Club.

A non-league side at the time of the takeover, the new ownership drew in global coverage that was unprecedented for a club in the fifth tier.

The club has been on an upwards trajectory ever since.

Wrexham were promoted into League Two at the end of the 2022/23 season after amassing 111 points in the National League, smashing records for most wins, goals and goal difference with both themselves and Notts County 20+ points ahead of the third placed team in the division.

Wrexham secured the automatic promotion spot and prepared for life in League Two.

They didn’t struggle one bit as they secured a second successive promotion into League One.

Now, Wrexham have just become the first club in the history of England’s top five football divisions to win back-to-back-to-back promotions.

This led to the club’s valuation increasing to around £150m, a 7,400% increase within 4 years, according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

With Wrexham bracing for life in the Championship, they are ready to spend and are now looking to acquire some Premier League talent to keep them in the division.

Ben Davies of Tottenham Hotspur had held talk with Wrexham as his contract was set to expire but news arrived today that Spurs have chosen to extend his contract Ben Davies’ contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.

Another player on their radar who is nearing the end of their contract is former Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

Ings has featured for three Premier League club since his departure from Anfield six years ago, signing for Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham.

He will be released by West Ham at the end of this season and with 17 appearances this season and 2 goal contributions to show for it across 405 minutes, it seems to be the right move for both parties.

Ings will become a free agent this summer and could be tempted by the idea of joining the Championship side.

Danny Ings played for Liverpool between 2015 and 2019 making 25 appearances and scoring four goals, with his most memorable coming in a Merseyside Derby in the 2015/16 season.
