Wrexham won 2-0 against Millwall in the Championship on Saturday.
It was Wrexham’s first win of the season, as they continue their surge up the football pyramid and adjust to life in England’s second tier of football.
But it was a nasty aerial collision that took the spotlight away from the victory yesterday.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward needed to be stretchered off and taken to hospital following an aerial collision late on in Wrexham’s win.
Seven minutes were added on to the end of the game, but as Danny Ward suffered the injury, an additional sixteen minutes were added as he received treatment on the pitch.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has now provided an update on the situation.
Parkinson confirmed that Ward was knocked unconscious and suffered an elbow injury.
“It doesn’t look promising when you see a player stretchered off like that?
I think the concussion alone will rule him out for a certain period.”
Parkinson is correct, as concussion protocol and damage to his elbow will result in the former Leicester City goalkeeper missing out on Wales’ crucial upcoming World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.
Danny Ward spent six years under contact with Liverpool between 2012 and 2018, but made just two appearances amidst loan moves to Morecambe, Aberdeen and Huddersfield Town before making the permanent switch to Leicester City.
The Wales international re-joined his hometown club Wrexham in July of this year after the expiry of his contract with Leicester City.
