It would seem that Hollywood-backed Wrexham have a bit of a Liverpool affinity this summer
The Welsh side are preparing for their inaugural Championship campaign and are making waves in the transfer market as a result.
Liverpool youngsters Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas both firmly in their sights for potential loan deals.
Manager Phil Parkinson has identified the pair as key targets who could provide the quality and experience needed to compete at the second tier, as Wrexham look to continue their remarkable ascent through English football.
Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover in February 2021, the Red Dragons have achieved what no club in Football League history had ever accomplished -three consecutive promotions from the Vanarama National Division through to the Sky Bet Championship.
And now the Liverpool link continues, with the Welsh side officially confirming the capture of former Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward this Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Wales international returns to his hometown club where his professional journey began, having left the Racecourse Ground for Liverpool in January 2012 for just £100,000.
During his six-year Liverpool spell from 2012 to 2018, Ward made just three first-team appearances despite signing multiple contract extensions.
He spent time on loan spells at the likes of Morecambe, Aberdeen, and Huddersfield Town.
Leicester City paid Liverpool £12.5 million for his services in July 2018.
The Foxes offered him regular first-team opportunities, with Ward making 52 appearances across all competitions during his seven-year stay at the King Power Stadium.
However, his contract expired on June 30, 2025, making him available as a free agent just as Wrexham sought Championship-level experience between the posts.
Speaking on his move to Wrexham’s official website, Ward said:
“It’s an exciting time and an amazing feeling to be back at the Club.”
“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity that the Club gave me at an early age and I hope I can repay that.”
On the signing of Ward, manager Phil Parkinson said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Danny back to Wrexham?
He’s a keeper with a lot of experience and he’s going to be a great addition to the squad.”
