RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons is set to be a man in demand this summer with a host of top European clubs circling for his signature, including Liverpool FC.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool asked to be ‘informed’ on the 21-year-old’s situation this summer among a host of other Premier League sides including Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea.
The Dutchman’s 10 goals and 6 assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances this season provide obvious justification for the pursuit.
Xavi Simons?
Simons’ journey has been anything but straightforward.
Although he has been on RB Leipzig’s books for the past 18 months, the German club only completed his permanent signing from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2025.
The deal, worth a club-record €81 million (with €50 million paid upfront and another €31 million in performance-related bonuses), was finalized after a lengthy delay caused by a unique clause in Simons’ previous contract with PSV Eindhoven.
This clause stipulated that if Simons was sold before January 2025, PSV would be entitled to the entire transfer fee.
As a result, Leipzig and PSG had to wait until the clause expired to execute the permanent transfer, even though the agreement between the two clubs had been in place for over a year.
What makes the situation even more remarkable is Leipzig’s apparent willingness to sell Simons just months after securing his signature.
And now Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has now revealed his price tag while also confirming Liverpool interest.
Taking to X, the Bundesliga insider wrote:
“RB Leipzig are still set to demand around €80 million for a transfer of Xavi this summer.”
“FC Bayern (should Florian Wirtz move elsewhere), Liverpool, Manchester United and several others, have him on their radar and are monitoring his situation.”
“As of now, no official offer has been submitted to RB.”
At 21, Simons represents both immediate impact and future-proofing.
Simons’ experience on the right wing (12 apps this season) offers insurance, with his left-footed preference mirroring Salah’s cutting-inside threat.
