Jurgen Klopp hopes Yasser Larouci has escaped a serious injury after the Liverpool youngster was on the receiving end of a horrendous red-card challenge in the Reds' 2-1 defeat against Sevilla.

Larouci was the victim of a wild, late kick from Sevilla's Joris Gnagnon, who made no attempt to play the ball and was deservedly sent off in the Boston friendly.

"It looks like he was lucky," Klopp told reporters after the game.

The combative nature of the game had appeared to subside following a raft of half-time changes, making Gnagnon's lunge on Larouci all the more incongruous.

Larouci, 18, appeared to be in agony on the Fenway Park turf, and tried to pick himself up before the pain was too much and a stretcher was required.

But we have to see.” The two sides battled it out in tough conditions in Boston - bright sunshine and 33-degree heat with 44 per cent humidity - but Julen Lopetegui's Sevilla side appeared particularly feisty in the first half, with Ever Banega lucky to avoid a red card for an elbow on Harry Wilson having already been booked earlier on.

Liverpool confirmed in a club statement that the wing-back will require further assessment, but Klopp is cautiously optimistic that the youngster has avoided a long layoff.
