Yoane Wissa is now “likely” to stay at Brentford beyond the end of the window with his transfer to Newcastle United collapsing.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with Wissa for the majority of the summer, and have already seen a number of bids for the attacker rejected.
The Magpies are in desperate need of a striker after Callum Wilson joined West Ham United following the expiration of his contract.
To make matters worse, Alexander Isak is pushing for a move to Liverpool and has said that he will never play for the Tyneside club again.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that despite their desire to bring in a number nine, Newcastle may miss out on Wissa.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted it is now likely that Brentford and Wissa will both put their differences behind them and make up.

The 28-year-old is currently refusing to play for the Bees as he pushes for a move away.
Wyness added that Newcastle are unlikely to push hard enough to get the deal done, which leaves Wissa stuck at the Gtech Stadium.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Newcastle got rid of Callum Wilson, so they need a replacement to come in.
Well, we’ve got a player who has come out on his social media and made all these references to Brentford.
However, if the Isak relationship is on the mend, then I don’t necessarily think Newcastle will push that much to get it done.
“Wissa may come back to the Brentford fold and everybody shakes hands, makes up, and kisses each other and moves on.
It’s going to be hard, but I still think Wissa is probably more likely to stay at Brentford.”

Meanwhile, Brentford are considering a move for Coventry defender Bobby Thomas in case they lose Nathan Collins before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Bees’ centre-back has been linked with a move away in recent weeks, and they could be set to look to the Championship for a replacement in standout Sky Blues man Thomas.
Thomas, 24, was a key man at the back for Coventry last season as they reached the play-offs under Frank Lampard, and he also displayed his prowess in attacking areas by netting five goals.
He was on Burnley’s books as a youngster but never made a top-flight appearance, and so a move to Brentford would represent his first real foray into the Premier League.
