Brentford’s potential approach to sign Bournemouth forward Dango Ouattara is set to allow Yoane Wissa to seal his dream move to Newcastle.

Wissa’s future has been up in the air over the last few weeks, with a move to St James’ Park in the balance ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

His 19 league goals helped Brentford to a 10th-placed finish last season, and Football Insider recently revealed that the Bees were set to price interested clubs out of signing Wissa amid interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies saw their initial bid of £25million [Sky Sports] for the 28-year-old rejected last month, but the feeling in each camp has been that a move is still set to happen soon, with Newcastle preparing to return with a second offer for Wissa.

Identifying and signing a replacement for the Congo international is believed to be a factor in any possible move that takes him to Tyneside [BBC], but now the Bees look to have progressed on that front, and so the wheels could be in motion for him to join Newcastle shortly.

The Daily Mail (7 August) have revealed that Wissa’s move to the Magpies, which they understand “will happen” soon, has only been held up by Brentford finding their replacement, and now they may have identified their man.

Their report states that Bournemouth attacker Dango Ouattara is a name of interest to the Bees, and so if they do make progress in signing him, or with any attacking target, then “immediate movement” is expected in Wissa’s Newcastle switch.

23-year-old Ouattara scored seven goals and provided four assists in 32 Premier League appearances for the Cherries last season, and would be Keith Andrews’ second attacking signing of the summer after Antoni Milambo recently joined the Bees from Feyenoord.

Football Insider verdict

Newcastle have routinely missed out on their summer targets so far, as Hugo Ekitike has joined Liverpool, while they also wanted to sign Wissa’s strike partner Bryan Mbeumo but were beaten to the transfer by Man United.

Alexander Isak also wants to leave St James’ Park, while Benjamin Sesko is another who looks to have chosen Man United over Newcastle, but their annoyances can be calmed by beating off competition from Al-Nassr to sign Wissa.

A new report from French outlet L’Equipe claims that the Saudi side are ready to meet Brentford’s asking price for the attacker to jump ahead of the Tyneside outfit in the queue for his services.

The BBC’s recent report does state that the 28-year-old “still wants to secure a transfer to Newcastle during the current transfer window,” and so if they match the Saudi side’s potential bid, then a deal will surely be done.

Magpies boss Howe must still hold out hope of overseeing a successful end to the club’s summer business, and with news of Brentford possible being ready to seek a replacement, it is surely only a matter of time until Wissa is through the door at St James’ Park.
