Newcastle have agreed a £55million deal with Brentford to sign forward Yoane Wissa on deadline day, according to reports, with the Magpies immediately moving on after selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

The team's start to the season has been overshadowed by uncertainty over Isak's future after the Sweden forward refused to link up with his team-mate during pre-season and continued to go on strike this month - complaining of "broken promises" by the club.

Eddie Howe's side have struggled this season without the presence of Isak, who netted 27 goals for the team last season - helping them win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League.

And with Newcastle finally sanctioning the wantaway star's exit after Liverpool's £125m bid was accepted, the Magpies are now set to snap up Wissa, who also went on strike at Brentford.

Newcastle will pay Brentford fee of £50m, the Athletic says, with bonuses taking the total to around £55m.

Half will be paid now and the remaining instalment will be paid next year.

Brentford will also retain a 25 percent sell-on clause in the deal.

Wissa will head to Tyneside for a medical on Monday and hope to wrap up his move before the 7pm deadline.

Wissa - - who scored 19 Premier League goals last season - is the second striker Newcastle have brought in this week following the arrival of Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade, as they bid to keep progressing in Isak's absence.

This weekend Wissa released a statement this weekend declaring his wish to leave the Bees after staying away from the first team for the entire summer.

In a situation almost identical to Isak's at Newcastle, he insisted he had been assured of a move if an acceptable bid came in.

"I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled make it clear that I want to leave Brentford," he said.

"I believe the club are unduly standing in my way despite a series of fair offers throughout the summer.

"Earlier this summer, I held open discussions with the club's senior management, including key directors and the new head coach.

I remain hopeful that a fair and reasonable resolution can still be found before the transfer window shuts.

"In the meantime, I must do what I feel is right for my career and family and insist that Brentford honour their promise to let me join a new club and at a fair price."
