A new era awaits Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp set to leave and Arne Slot expected to replace him in the summer.

Not many would have predicted or expected Liverpool to be in such a situation, but it’s time for a new chapter in this trophy-laden and historic club.

At one point, when Klopp announced that he was leaving, the hope was that the team could push for the quadruple or close to it.

If the German had left with another European trophy and the Premier League title, then the next man through the door would have had a much tougher job on his hands.

But how things have unfolded for Liverpool in recent weeks have surprised many and it’s going to be interesting to see how Slot deals with it all.

Things took a turn for the worst against West Ham United at the weekend when Klopp and Mohamed Salah were involved in a heated exchange on the touchline.

That has understandably hit the headlines and a lot of focus has been on what happens next.

These things happen in football and you hope it’s just a small issue, but talk has reignited as to whether Salah will stay beyond the summer.

The £35 million signing’s contract expires in 2025, there has been strong talk of Saudi Arabia, which stemmed from last summer.

Ian Wright feels Salah should have left last summer given what the Saudi Pro League could have offered the club, as he told Premier League Productions (29/04/24 at 2:30 pm).

But the Arsenal legend now thinks the 31-year-old will probably see out his contract, before probably heading out on a free transfer.

“If I am Mo Salah, then I wouldn’t want to be leaving now,” said Wright.

“If he was going to leave, he should have left last season when they were making these unbelievable and astronomical sums of money for him from the Saudi league.

“Even if they aren’t off the table, for Mo as a player, you have to look at it from a player’s point of view, you are coming into a year and the last year of your contract.

You are going somewhere where you can probably leave at the end of the season for free.

I am just going to finish my contract and see where I go’.

As a player, the position Mo Salah finds himself in, is perfect for a player of his stature.

It’s not in his best interest to leave now.”

Amid this Salah-Klopp spat, the talk now emerging is that the Egypt star has no intention of leaving.

At the end of the day, he is still at the top of his game, even if his form has fallen off since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Over the course of the season, Salah has 17 goals from 29 matches, added to his nine assists.

Erling Haaland is still leading the Golden Boot charge with 21 goals, but Salah still has a chance of winning it, which is incredible given how things have unfolded recently.
