Jamie Carragher has revealed how he was once confronted in the Liverpool dressing room by former team-mate Daniel Sturridge.

And he’s revealed how Sturridge actually confronted him in the dressing room over in Australia after the former Liverpool star had previously suggested that the Reds should sell the striker while on punditry duty.

“There was one player (who confronted me) and it was Daniel Sturridge,” Carragher recalled when speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, brought to you by Sky Bet.

“He was still playing at the end with Jurgen Klopp.

“It was funny, you wouldn’t believe this, but when I stopped playing for a couple of years, Liverpool asked me and Steven Gerrard to go on an end of season game in Australia.

“You wouldn’t believe it, Liverpool couldn’t sell out the tickets to fill out this stadium in Australia, so they asked me, Stevie, and Steve McManaman to play with the team so I ended up playing.

“I’d said that they’d needed to sell Daniel Sturridge, and he fronted me in the dressing room when we got over there.

You know what I mean?”

This is not the first time Carragher has spoken about being confronted by Sturridge, with the Liverpool legend previously telling the ECHO about the incident back in 2017.

“I’ve got a funny story about that, and I didn’t mind it actually - I was happy about it,” he revealed only a few weeks after the game in Australia.

“As soon as I got on the plane, I could see Sturridge wasn’t his normal self with me.

“And he pulled me in Australia after the game, or at half time when we’d come off.

If Daniel Sturridge is happy playing 25 games next season, you are not going to get many sub strikers with his quality.

“But to be honest I’d seen Slaven Bilic speak about him towards the end of the season, so I thought ‘oh, he’ll end up at a West Ham or somewhere’.
