The versatile defender had given his approval to join Milan on a four-year deal, but the transfer collapsed when Liverpool failed to secure Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as a replacement.

Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare has reportedly reopened talks with Liverpool decision-makers in recent weeks, gauging the club’s willingness to sanction a mid-season exit for Gomez.
