Alexander Isak has endured a slow start to life at Liverpool following his British record transfer from Newcastle United this summer, and now he has suffered another blow with SwedenAlan Shearer reckons that Alexander Isak's switch to Liverpool "hasn't helped" the striker. This sparked reports that Isak was purportedly refusing to represent the Toon Army again, irrespective of whether he secured an exit before the deadline. And whilst the protracted 'will he, won't he?' drama continued until the final hours, Liverpool ultimately landed their man for a British record fee of £125million, mere hours before the transfer window closed on September 1.Following his tally of 62 goals and 11 assists across 109 outings for Newcastle, expectations were undoubtedly sky-high for the striker to make an immediate impact at Anfield, particularly given the considerable lengths the Reds went to in order to land his signature.Yet Isak has so far struggled to leave his mark since arriving, with his sole strike for the club coming during a tight 2-1 victory against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last month.Newcastle icon Shearer has been quick to criticise the forward as a consequence, and Isak's latest setback with Sweden speaks volumes about how tricky his situation has become of late as he looks to rediscover his best form.Discussing Isak's slow beginning to the campaign with Betfair, Shearer commented: "It hasn't been the start to the season that Isak would've wanted.
When you consider Sweden's front three of [Viktor] Gyokeres, Isak and [Anthony] Elanga and you can't score and are on the brink of not qualifying for the World Cup."Obviously, the manager has paid the price and lost his job which is no surprise. Obviously with the Newcastle situation, Isak not playing or training and understandably hasn't hit the ground running at Liverpool, he was probably looking to get to full fitness at this international break, but it's gone the other way."It hasn't worked, he and they haven't scored and can't score which, when you look at the ability of that front three, being bottom of the group doesn't look right at all.
The summer certainly hasn't helped Isak."Isak has had a disappointing start to the season with Liverpool, failing to score in any of his three Premier League appearances so far. His form on the international stage for Sweden has also been lacklustre. The forward missed a significant portion of Sweden's World Cup qualifiers last month due to his protracted transfer saga, featuring for just 20 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.
