Alan Shearer has claimed that Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are now "mentally free" with Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool, with Yan Diomande suggested as a signingFlorian Wirtz and Alexander Isak of Liverpool.(Image: Harry Langer/DeFodi via Getty Images)Alan Shearer says Liverpool players including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak will benefit from being "mentally" freed following Mohamed Salah's departure — with RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande put forward as an ideal acquisition this summer.Salah will depart Anfield on a free transfer, he announced in March, having brought an end to his nine-year spell at the club following a disappointing campaign. The Egyptian had openly criticized Liverpool's style of play and head coach Arne Slot, who was subsequently dismissed on Saturday after failing to compete for major honors despite $600 million (£450 million) or so being invested in new signings last summer.Foremost amongst those were British record $169 million (£125 million) signing Isak and $154 million (£116 million) man Wirtz, both of whom experienced difficulties with injuries and adaptation periods respectively. However, former Newcastle striker Shearer anticipates that the pair will benefit from Liverpool now requiring more talismanic figures following Salah's exit."It is a big transfer window for Liverpool on the back of a really, really frustrating season after winning the league," he said."Their recruitment last summer hasn't worked yet. But with (Andy) Robertson leaving, and maybe (Ibrahima) Konate, with Salah, they need another huge summer."And they can't have a summer where they're then waiting 12 or 18 months for players to settle in.
The signings need to hit the ground running and do well from the off."Liverpool has been linked with a number of players, including 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who is set to represent Ivory Coast in the upcoming World Cup.Speaking to Betfair, Shearer added: "Liverpool need a host of players in their forward line because with Salah gone, you are left thinking who have they got?Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kitThis article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it. There's no doubt they'll need another striker in there, and a forward that's ready to go, and ready to come in and score 15 goals."They are linked with Diomande and he's a really talented player. He would add a lot to Liverpool, but what the fee would be, I'm not quite sure."It would obviously be a lot of money, and I guess if they do buy him, then they've watched him several times, so, I think it would be a good buy for them."Liverpool.com says: Isak and Wirtz will have to improve next season, but they should do, not least with better quality in wide areas around them.
