Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mural has been vandalised ahead of his Liverpool return. Alexander-Arnold will step out at Anfield for the first time as an opposing player in Tuesday’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.
But the nature of his defection to the Spanish capital remains a bone of contention for many fans as he prepares to visit his old stomping ground. Some supporters have made their feelings known on Alexander-Arnold’s homecoming by daubing his mural near the stadium with white paint.
The words ‘rat’ and a Spanish phrase of ‘adios el rata’ – ‘goodbye rat’ – were also written on the artwork at the corner of Sybil Street and Anfield Road. Workmen began the process of cleaning the mural, which was commissioned following the Reds’ 2019 Champions League success, a short time later.
