Andoni Iraola has confirmed that cramps were the reason for taking Trey Nyoni off midway through an excellent performance against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.Liverpool fans have been desperate to see more of Nyoni, with some believing that he is the answer to getting their struggling midfield firing once again.The 19-year-old backed up those suggestions against Tottenham, injecting energy, intensity and some brilliant passing into the middle of the pitch. Despite his quality, though, Iraola took Nyoni off on the hour, with some perhaps concluding that the youngster was either injured, or being rested for a start in Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.

Asked about the teenager’s performance by Robbie Fowler, Iraola shared his enthusiasm for the display, before confirming the cramping issue.“I think on the ball and without the ball,” he said when told by Fowler that Nyoni had made a difference to Liverpool.

“He was cramping at the end there, he asked me for the sub. He gives us energy, I think when we have this kind of intensity we are a better team.”There was a feeling before the game that Nyoni could be about to play his way into the team, and after turning in an accomplished display on his first start of the season, it would not be a surprise to see him named in the XI to face Bournemouth on Sunday.
