While the Spaniard's deal came to a close with Bournemouth, making his way to Liverpool as a free agent, both Elphick and Cooper were club hires, meaning the Reds still had to reach a settlement package to secure them.Iraola has had to deal with some adversity before in having his coaching setup shaken up.
When he joined Bournemouth, he was unable to bring his assistant, Inigo Perez, with him due to the work permit laws. While Perez has since gone on to have a successful career as a manager himself, first at Rayo Vallecano and now at Villarreal, there was some hope that the new Liverpool boss would at least have some continuity with his staff when heading to Anfield. The settlement package for both Elphick and Cooper has finally put an end to some of that uncertainty, in a major boost to Iraola before he takes the start of pre-season with the roster in the coming weeks.Who is Tommy Elphick?Tommy Elphick is a name that may be familiar to avid watchers of the English Football League, featuring for Brighton, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa among his clubs during his professional playing career. The 38-year-old featured as a center-back, making over 400 appearances across all competitions, before hanging up his boots in 2021.Since then, Elphick has transitioned into coaching. He featured in the Bournemouth development squad before eventually working his way up to the senior team coaching ranks.Tommy Elphick will join Iraola at Liverpool(Image: (Photo by Robin Jones - AFC Bournemouth/AFC Bournemouth via Getty Images))With Iraola's exit this summer, the former defender looked set to take his own first steps into management when Bristol City of the Championship came knocking.Elphick turned down that opportunity, however, which has seemingly come as he preferred the move to Liverpool instead, now reuniting with Iraola to continue his coaching journey.Who is Shaun Cooper?Much like Elphick, Shaun Cooper is a former professional player who featured plenty of times for Bournemouth, alongside the likes of Portsmouth and Sutton United. The 42-year-old made 301 appearances across all competitions in his career, featuring across the backline as a center-back or a right-back, while he could also play in midfield.Cooper hung up his boots in 2017 and returned to Bournemouth, where he worked through the club's coaching ranks to become one of their key members in recent years.
