Andy Robertson has lauded the Anfield atmosphere after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, with Florian Wirtz taking in a special European night. Speaking after the game, the Scot hailed the atmosphere, revealing that Wirtz was one of many to drink it in after Alexis Mac Allister‘s goal.

“And that’s what these fans can do and that’s what this club does – it was a real special atmosphere tonight and we’re going to need that all throughout the season. “But we know European nights, it doesn’t take much to get it going, and thankfully, we gave them what they wanted at the start, high press and winning tackles.

“We know this crowd already reacts off the back of that, and I thought they really helped us over the line, so credit goes to them. “All round, it was a really pleasing night.” This all felt like the Liverpool of old, from the players to the crowd, with Madrid unable to cope with the Reds’ quality and intensity.
