Liverpool Transfer: Tyler Morton’s Permanent Exit to Lyon Confirmed with £15m Deal

Liverpool FC has finalized the permanent transfer of academy graduate Tyler Morton to Ligue 1 side Lyon for a deal worth £15 million, including a 20% sell-on clause.[1][2]

The 22-year-old midfielder, a boyhood Liverpool fan, departs after 15 years with the club, having made just 14 senior appearances, including his debut against Norwich in September 2021 and one assist.[1] Last season, he featured only five times, none in the Premier League, overshadowed by stars like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, and Dominik Szoboszlai.[2]

Morton sought regular senior football after successful Championship loans at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, totaling 79 appearances.[1][2] Interest from clubs like Bayer Leverkusen arose last summer, but he stayed for squad depth during Liverpool's title-winning campaign before this move.[2]

This exit follows other academy products like Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Nat Phillips, plus Luis Díaz's £65.5m departure, helping Liverpool recoup up to £145 million amid £300 million in summer spending.[1][2]

Part of England's triumphant U21 Euro squad, Morton heads to France for a new challenge, awaiting his medical.[2] Liverpool wishes him well as he aims to establish himself abroad.[1]
