Robertson has seen his minutes reduced this season following the emergence of Milos Kerkez, with the Dutchman previously acknowledging he understood the Scot’s frustration at no longer being an automatic starter. At 32, and with Liverpool planning the next defensive cycle, the club have opted not to extend a contract that runs out in June, even though Robertson had publicly suggested he would have welcomed talks over staying longer.

Now speaking in his pre-Fulham press conference, Slot has reacted to the news: “He had many great seasons over here as a player but I think people got to konw him as a great person as well, I got to know him, every team-mate will tell you how funny he is and how great a person he is and that has been shown a lot on social media as well.” “What I remember most about him is the intesity he is always playing with. “He has won everything here, really loves this club, it has been a great nine years at the club. But we saw this season he didn’t play as much as he used to and as a result of that he is leaving.
