Liverpool have not won in three consecutive games following the defeat to Chelsea. The Reds are not looking as dominant as they did last season, despite having a similar squad with some excellent new additions. They lost two of their Premier League games 2-1, both ending in late winners to the opposing team, which is poetic given how Liverpool started this season with last-minute goals to win games. However, the starting XI are not as strong a cohesive unit as they were last season, and have left Arne Slot with very difficult choices to make in who starts. The difference with last season for the Merseyside club is that they were in a transition from Jurgen Klopp to the Dutch manager, which meant that the team was already familiar with one another and just needed a few tweaks.Photo by Jacques Feeney/Offside/Offside via Getty ImagesArne Slot used his best starting XI against Atletico MadridThere have been question marks over some of his decision-making this season, but out of his opening 10 fixtures, he has been able to take all three points in seven matches. In many, he has opted to make many changes to his starting XI, and some of those tweaks have not benefited the whole squad, given the individual performances of some, mainly in the defence. But there has been one starting lineup which had a lot of success and put on the best display of the team so far against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.READ MORE: How Liverpool duo Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak compare to big-money striker signings around the Premier LeagueThe result was obviously similar to many of the games that Liverpool have won this season, but on this European night at Anfield, the team looked the best they have ever had. With the usual defensive pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate placed alongside Andy Robertson and Jeremie Frimpong, it was the most balanced defence of the season. While Frimpong may not have performed to his best recently, in this game, he showed his tenacity going forward and speed to track back as Robertson put in the solid shift he is still capable of.Alisson Becker, of course, started in goal as he always should. The biggest differences were in the midfield, where Florian Wirtz looked comfortable and as progressive as fans were expecting alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.Surprisingly, this team did not feature Hugo Ekitike but Alexander Isak, but the front three with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo just seemed to click. However, despite scoring three goals and putting on a season-best display, they have not been put together since, which makes no sense given it was the most complete performance of the season.Following the international break, it would be necessary to give this squad a start because there is clearly some kind of chemistry that has produced this kind of impeccable performance.Arne Slot needs to find a consistent starting XIThis XI would be the most ideal, but in general, it would be great if the Dutchman could produce a consistent side. One of the reasons for the poor performance has been that the squad has not gelled, and by constantly changing it without fielding some of the best players, it has been detrimental to the side’s progress. It will take some ruthless decision-making from Slot, which he is known for, to actually set down what is the best team to take Liverpool forward, and right now, it is a must.
