Bayern Munich Chief Makes Call to Sign Marc Guehi
Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl has intensified efforts to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, positioning the German giants as frontrunners in the race for the England international's signature.[3][4]
Guehi, 25, is in the final six months of his contract with Palace, set to expire on June 30, 2026. Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has acknowledged the player's intent to leave, stating Guehi informed the club of his departure plans earlier this season. Glasner believes Guehi will stay until summer but admitted a "massive" offer could change that, especially with Palace's mid-table position after a dip in form.[1][3]
Interest is fierce from Premier League heavyweights Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City, all vying for top-four spots and European football. Arsenal have gained traction as Guehi reportedly prefers them or Liverpool over City, who are desperate due to injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias and have tabled a winter contract offer.[2][4][5] Last summer, a £35m Liverpool deal collapsed on deadline day.[3]
Bayern, however, hold a strategic edge. As the only club able to negotiate a pre-contract now, Eberl recently made direct phone calls to persuade Guehi of a summer free transfer move to Munich. Weeks earlier, Eberl met Guehi's agent at Bayern's Säbener Straße facility, per Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.[3] Reports from Foot Mercato suggest Guehi leans toward Bayern over City, valuing the free-agent strategy amid competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona.[4][5]
Guehi's stellar form—starring for England at EURO 2024 and Palace's FA Cup final run—has elevated his status as one of Europe's top defenders. His speed, anticipation, and wide-area defending suit Bayern's aggressive style perfectly.[3][5] While City push for January, Bayern hope Guehi waits, keeping the transfer poker wide open.[6]
