(Credit: Imago, Hasan Karim - Breaking Media) Wed 8 October 2025 11:00, UK Bournemouth may well have made the wrong decision in letting a player go over the summer as a certain stat shows that they have started the new Premier League season in fantastic form.Andoni Iraola led Bournemouth to a challenge for European football last term, but they just came up short and eventually finished ninth in the Premier League after a stellar campaign.Numerous key players like Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez left Bournemouth in the summer, with many fearful for their chances of success this term as a result.Dango Ouattara also departed Bournemouth to join Brentford for a club-record fee, but they have been able to impress once again this term despite so many high-profile exits.Even though they have impressed in recent months, there is one surprising player who the Cherries may well feel they were too quick to let go, especially considering the former star now leads the top-flight in a key stat ahead of some of the league’s best forwards.(Credit Imago)Jaidon Anthony has the best shot conversion rate in the Premier League this seasonJaidon Anthony left Bournemouth to join Burnley on loan in August 2024, and he registered eight goals and seven assists in 43 games as they won promotion to the Championship last term. Anthony was seriously impressive for the Clarets in the second-tier, and he joined the club on a permanent deal in May as they took up the option-to-buy in his loan, which has proved to be a very shrewd move so far this season.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES The 25-year-old has netted four goals and notched one assist in seven Premier League appearances for Burnley up to now, which is more goal contributions than every Bournemouth player other than Antoine Semenyo (9), with Marcos Senesi (2) the only other of Iraola’s players to have more than one contribution. As well as that, he sits top of the Premier League in terms of highest shot conversion rate among every player up to now, with 33.3% according to Statmuse, with those four goals coming from just 12 shots taken. He sits immediately ahead of Semenyo in second place (31.3%), while Erling Haaland (31%), Jarrod Bowen, Wilson Isidor and Richarlison (20%) all follow at the top of the metric.Bournemouth have clearly been heavily reliant on Semenyo so far this season, and keeping Anthony may have been a much wiser decision considering his current form, their European aims, and the fact that the Ghana international could soon be on his way out.Bournemouth could lose Antoine Semenyo and so may regret Anthony saleSemenyo signed a brand new five-year contract with Bournemouth in July after a breakout 2024-25 campaign, putting rumours around a potential imminent departure to bed, but long-term doubts around his future still remain. He has been mightily impressive this season with six goals and three assists in seven league appearances, but there is a notion that the Cherries have become overly-reliant on him, and so cannot afford to lose him for anything other than a huge sum of money in the transfer windows to come.Credit: ImagoFootball Insider recently revealed that Tottenham and Man United are both looking at signing Semenyo soon, with a fee of around £80million mooted for his services, while Liverpool also hold an interest in Semenyo as sporting director Richard Hughes is a big fan of his talents. It is clear that, barring a minor miracle, the 25-year-old will not be a Bournemouth player in 12 months’ time, and so the club may well live to regret the sale of Anthony even further. He may not be on the same level as Semenyo, but would have been a real asset for the club this season and beyond, and he has proved that he can shine at the highest level with Burnley so far in 2025-26.
