The former Celtic boss resigned from his role as Parkhead manager little over two weeks ago.Former Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a leading candidate to be appointed as manager of Swansea City after the EFL Championship club parted ways with Alan Sheehan earlier in the week.Rodgers spent two successful seasons with the second-tier club in the early stages of his managerial career, leading them to promotion to the English Premier League via the playoffs, before replacing Roy Hodgson at Liverpool after being poached by European giants in the summer of 2012.Currently out of work after resigning from his role as Celtic manager on October 27, Rodgers left Parkhead following back-to-back defeats against Dundee and Hearts. Departing under acrimonious circumstances amid a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s board of directors, major shareholder Dermot Desmond had accused the head coach of having a ‘self-serving’ approach in his final weeks at the club.Swansea City parted ways with head coach Alan Sheehan on Tuesday. | AFP via Getty ImagesHowever, the 52-year-old could now be set to make a sensational return to management after being named as one of the bookies’ favourites to be installed as the new Swansea boss.
The Welsh outfit confirmed the sacking of head coach Sheehan on Tuesday after a 4-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town left them in 18th position in the EFL Championship, and with just one win from their last seven league games. In a statement on the club’s website, owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen said: “Alan has been instrumental in helping improve the club through two periods of time. He has put his full effort into the job on behalf of the club.“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Alan for all of his hard work during his time at Swansea City.
We will update supporters on this process once it has been concluded.”The sacking of the 39-year-old has now resulted in Rodgers’ odds of being named the club’s next manager being slashed to 2/1 overnight to replace the outgoing boss by BetVictor. IK Hammarby boss Kim Hellberg remains the current 7/4 favourite for the job, with ex-Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick priced at 12/1.WalesOnline journalist Tom Coleman has confirmed the club’s interest in Hellberg, saying: “Told Hellberg is expected to be an early contender for the Swansea City job.
