The club-record signing has not featured since just before Christmas, when he suffered a brutal leg injury in the 2-1 win away at Tottenham after a late challenge from Micky van de Ven as he scored the opener in north London. Scans revealed an ankle issue that included a fractured fibula, and the 26-year-old was forced to undergo surgery a couple of days later, with initial estimates suggesting a lay-off of at least two to three months.
Since then Isak’s recovery has followed a steady, if frustratingly slow, trajectory. Slot has spoken a few times about the striker being back out on the grass and doing individual work at the AXA Training Centre, but is still no yet training with the team: “He’s with the rehab team still not with the team yet,” Slot said in his pre-Tottenham press conference.
