Liverpool fans’ worst fears about Sunday’s clash against Manchester City appeared to be confirmed on Thursday as neither Alexander Isak nor Cody Gakpo were spotted in training. The Reds released their customary ‘Inside Training’ video showing behind the scenes of the session, with no sign of Isak or Gakpo out on the AXA Training Centre pitches. However, both players were spotted in the video, walking through into the changing area in full kit before their teammates headed onto the grass. Perhaps in order to keep Man City guessing on their team news, they did not show anything from later on, when Isak and Gakpo could have featured.
However, it would be a surprise if the Spaniard confirms that neither will be ready to play.Given they were spotted in full training gear alongside their teammates on Thursday, both must be close at the very least, and Iraola will most likely suggest that there is still a chance for them to feature.Clearly, better news on Thursday would have been that Isak and Gakpo simply joined in with the rest of the Liverpool squad right from the start of the session. The Italian’s comeback is timely as worries over Isak and Gakpo linger.Long-term absentees Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni – who should return after the City game – all sat out, but otherwise Liverpool appear to have been at full complement. There could obviously have been better news on Isak and Gakpo, but hope is not lost there, and the Reds have otherwise come back from the break unscathed.
