Liverpool Echo IconSportFootballConor BradleyConor Bradley impressed as Liverpool saw off Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday nightFormer England star Teddy Sheringham has been full of praise for Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley. And he says the youngster's performance against Real Madrid reminded him of a ‘young Steven Gerrard’.The Manchester United legend's comments come after Bradley’s impeccable display against the Spanish giants on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s first return to Anfield. When speaking about the Northern Irishman, Sheringham told Oddspedia: “Conor Bradley definitely stepped up to the plate last night against Vinicius.
Bradley has probably not found that level of consistency yet, but parts of his game make me go, ‘wow’.READ MORE: Arne Slot hails Conor Bradley and rejects Trent Alexander-Arnold suggestion after Liverpool winREAD MORE: Xabi Alonso left with 'bitter taste' after Liverpool loss as he makes Trent Alexander-Arnold claim"I look at him like a young Steven Gerrard coming onto the scene – he’s got that tenacity and drive about him and has a huge amount of quality.”Sheringham also believes that the 22-year-old can play a big part in Liverpool’s 2025/26 campaign, whilst also being a star for years to come.He said: “I was very impressed by him. If he can defend that well against Vinicius – one of the best players in the world – then he’s definitely on the way to becoming a real success at Liverpool.“The challenge for him now is whether he can sustain those levels, but I’m confident he’ll be able to in the future.”Despite his positive views on Bradley’s match, the former England striker wasn’t pleased with the reception of the returning Alexander-Arnold, criticising the Anfield support for their reaction to him coming on.“Liverpool fans’ reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold is a perfect example of supporters being fickle,” he said.
“If Trent signed back for Liverpool next season and started performing well, they’d love him all over again.”Sheringham went on to sympathise with the decision that the former-Liverpool full-back made, highlighting how strong the pull of Real Madrid is.The 59-year-old added: “There’s clearly a few who give him grief for moving onto bigger and better things.“You don’t leave Liverpool to join many other clubs because they’re obviously one of the biggest clubs in the world, but when you get the chance to go to Real Madrid, you’re almost obliged to try your trade there and see if you can do it in a different country at another fantastic club.”He also claims that the reaction the 27-year-old received from the fans that once adored him will have affected him.The ex-United man said: “Trent will be upset that the Liverpool fans reacted like that, but it’s just the way football fans are.”
