David Ornstein has provided a fresh update on Marc Guehi’s future amid renewed interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. The Crystal Palace captain, whose contract runs out in the summer, came close to joining Liverpool last year after a £35m fee was agreed, only for Palace to pull out late on when they could not secure a replacement. Since then, Guehi’s stock has continued to rise for club and country, making him one of the most sought-after centre-backs in the Premier League.
According to Ornstein’s update, Liverpool remain firmly in the conversation for the defender, but they now face strong competition. Arsenal and Man City have both registered their interest, with City in particular exploring a move as they manage injuries in defence and look for a long-term option at centre-back. Reports elsewhere have even suggested City have a verbal understanding on personal terms with Guehi and are preparing an offer to Palace.
Crystal Palace, however, are reluctant to lose their key asset cheaply in January, despite the risk of him leaving for free in the summer. Manager Oliver Glasner has publicly stated that he expects Guehi to stay this month, while also admitting that a “massive” bid and a request from the player could change the situation. Palace are thought to be holding out for a significant fee, with figures around or above last summer’s £35m agreement again being discussed.
For Liverpool, Guehi remains an attractive target after undergoing a medical and agreeing terms last year, and the club continue to monitor developments closely. But with multiple elite suitors in play and Palace demanding a premium, Ornstein’s update underlines that any January move will be complicated, expensive, and heavily dependent on both Palace’s stance and Guehi’s own preference.
