One of Liverpool's myriad of signings in an intense summer of business in 2025, saw Jeremie Frimpong arrive from Bayer Leverkusen. The full-back has looked promising at times, both at right-back and on the wing but has also sustained a series of injuries.Jeremie Frimpong's positionThe Dutchman played as a wing-back for Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen.I remember a key person in Liverpool's online supporter space questioning why Liverpool had bought a different type of player, a roadrunner, compared to Trent's unique creative style.A year on and I don't feel that the question has been fully answered, outside of a vague sense of Liverpool wanting to emulate PSG's fluid, flying style.A burgeoning season for Dominik Szoboszlai has taken a lot of the creative burden, both in midfield and at right-back.Liverpool FC v Galatasaray SK - UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Round of 16 Second Leg | Simon Stacpoole/Offside/GettyImagesI think Liverpool have looked comfortable with Szoboszlai deputising there because they are used to receiving creative passes from that position and the service for the rest of the team coming through right-back.Frimpong himself has had stints at winger this season, and while lacking in end-product, he has looked more effective there. This raises questions as to what Frimpong's best position is.An energetic skillsetFrimpong has looked dangerous with his pace and dribbling on the ball.He has looked vulnerable at times defensively and he is a poor header of the ball, so these raise questions as to whether he is able to play in a back four.Especially when full-backs in other teams have become more like central defenders and in some cases are central defenders that have been moved out there, Nathan Ake and Ben White being a couple of examples.Frimpong has the work rate to get up and down, but it is clear that his game needs refining when he does get into position. He has grabbed two assists in the Premier League against Wolves and West Ham, and scored against Barnsley in the FA Cup.These are shoots of growth, but it is a level of production that can be, and should be, improved upon.Part of the Reds' coreFrimpong has played an important role in the Liverpool team this season. This is despite the fact that he has struggled with injuries, something which wasn't a major problem during his time at Leverkusen. The injuries that he has sustained will have stunted his growth in what is a formative season in his Liverpool career. The short answer is, I think the Liverpool hierarchy have an idea of the team and the style of play they want to achieve, and I think Frimpong at right back is a key part of that.Whether or not we deem his first season as a success, I think Frimpong is here to stay in Liverpool's starting 11 for next season and beyond.Hopefully he can develop his game, and with a more consistent squad around him, he will build on a decent first season at Anfield.Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
