Diogo Jota's wife shared a warm embrace with one of the late Liverpool star's friends during the Porto Marathon over the weekend. Bruno Duarte completed the race while wearing a Liverpool jersey with Jota's name and number on the back, and on his way around the course he encountered Jota's widow, Rute Cardoso.
Duarte, a close friend and youth teammate of Jota's, was by Cardoso's side as his coffin was carried into the Mother Church of Gondomar ahead of his funeral on July 5. Liverpool retired the No.20 jersey following Jota's death on July 3, and committed to paying out the remaining two years on his Reds contract to his family.
Ahead of Liverpool's game against Real Madrid on Tuesday, Jota's former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold laid a wreath and left a message at Jota's memorial outside Anfield. The message from Alexander-Arnold, who was teammates with Jota at Liverpool for five years, said: "My mate Diogo, you are so missed but still so loved.
