Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say In the current season, the Reds’ defensive record is concerning, with Arne Slot’s men already shipping 24 in 15 Premier League matches.But to Slot’s credit, he has tried to plug his leaky defence by making changes down the right.Dominik Szoboszlai must track backSalah has told Slot he’s better when not defending, but given how much Liverpool have struggled on this front of late, he needed to.While we saw moments of the 33-year-old tracking back this season, it did not happen enough, and it probably goes some way to explaining why he was dropped.In his absence, Slot has been using attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai on the right wing.The Hungarian has excelled in this role, most recently scoring the winner against Inter Milan in the Champions League.But Ally McCoist has now come out and said that he’s ‘not a fan’ of how Szoboszlai drops deeper and helps out at right-back.Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “Yeah, at the moment, no doubt about it [he is Liverpool’s best player], he has kind of been Liverpool’s shining light.“The only thing I would say, and I know players do it, but I’m not a fan of him going back into that right-back position, I think he offers far too much going forward, but I know sometimes needs-must, but for me he has more effect.”If Szoboszlai followed that advice and stayed forward more, there’s no doubt Liverpool would start conceding more.Photo by MB Media/Getty ImagesDominik Szoboszlai could have another rival in Mohamed Salah’s position soonWhether or not Salah becomes a regular starter again after the 2026 AFCON remains to be seen.But while he is away on international duty in the second half of this month and potentially into January, Liverpool will need more competition at right wing.Federico Chiesa could be an option, but it’s become apparent that Slot is against starting the former Juventus man.However, an unorthodox rival for Szoboszlai could emerge when Jeremie Frimpong returns from injury.The Dutchman is technically a right-back, but he thrives in an advanced wing-back role and his mix of attacking prowess and defensive solidity could be just what the Reds need to keep their right-hand side from becoming a problem again.
