Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say Paul Konchesky admits Liverpool transfer was a mistakeSpeaking on the From My Left podcast this week, former Reds player Paul Konchesky shared an insight into his move and admitted he should have stayed at Fulham.He said: “I played for some big clubs, but a big club with history like Liverpool is probably a no-brainer that I wanted to go and test myself.“I think the club was in the state at the time, the manager, they were trying to sell the club, but the big question that I’m going to probably say to you is if I look back now, would I have should I have done it?“Probably not.

Should have stayed at Fulham.”Konchesky joined Liverpool from Fulham in August 2010, around the same time the aforementioned Cole made his move.The two-time capped England international had a similar struggle for game time, making just 18 appearances before he was sold.What happened to Paul Konchesky after Liverpool exit?The former left-back was loaned to Nottingham Forest while still on the Reds’ books.He was then sold to Leicester City in July 2011 and was unable to reach the heights of a big Premier League club again.Konchesky spent five years with the Foxes before his release in 2016, when he joined Gillingham.His slide down the English football pyramid continued in 2017, with a move to Billericay.The now 44-year-old then took a career break in 2018, coming out of retirement for a brief stint with East Thurrock, with whom he eventually ended his career in August 2018.Post-playing, Konchesky was made manager of the West Ham United Women’s team, whom he left in May 2023 after a difficult spell.
