Keith Wyness Shares Unexpected Rob Edwards Exit Claim After Wolves' Latest

Former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has warned Wolverhampton Wanderers against sacking manager Rob Edwards, calling it a "big mistake" amid the club's dire Premier League form.[1][5]

Wolves sit bottom of the table with just three points from their 1-1 draw at Manchester United—their first under Edwards, who replaced Vitor Pereira in November. Despite a winless run putting him under sack pressure, Wyness insists Edwards was appointed under ex-chairman Jeff Shi with an expectation of relegation and rebuilding in the Championship.[1]

Speaking on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness highlighted ongoing "turmoil" at Molineux following Shi's sacking and the arrival of inexperienced son Nathan Shi as executive chairman. "Rob Edwards came under Jeff Shi... [he] was probably told that we think we’re going to go down, but we’d like you to stay and rebuild in the Championship," Wyness said. Sacking him now would be "another big mistake."[1]

Wyness attributes Wolves' woes to poor summer transfers and ownership issues under Fosun, lacking squad depth to rally like last season. He expressed a "big concern" over rebuilding in the Championship due to insufficient behind-the-scenes experience.[3]

Amid takeover rumors—potentially led by John Textor—Wyness warned relegation could slash Wolves' value from £350-400m to around £150m, a £200m blow for owners. A relegation clause might feature in any deal. Sources indicate January backing for Edwards with funds for signings to fight survival.[2][4]

Wolves fans criticize Fosun, with calls to sell. Wyness urges ownership accountability, predicting a "difficult, complicated process" ahead regardless.[3][6]
