Jonjo Shelvey, former Liverpool and England midfielder, has made a surprising career move by signing with Arabian Falcons, a club in the UAE Second Division League, on 27 September 2025. Shelvey, who began his professional journey at Charlton Athletic and became their youngest-ever player, had an extensive stint in English football. After joining Liverpool in 2010 for £1.7 million, he experienced early success including a League Cup victory and an FA Cup final appearance in 2012.

Following Liverpool, Shelvey transferred to Swansea City for £5 million in 2013 and then to Newcastle United for £12 million in 2015. At Newcastle, he briefly served as stand-in captain during the absence of Fabricio Coloccini and helped the club regain Premier League status. Shelvey later held the vice-captaincy before leaving the club in 2023. His later career saw spells across several clubs including Nottingham Forest, Çaykur Rizespor, Eyüpspor, and Burnley.

Internationally, Shelvey has represented England across multiple youth levels and earned his first senior cap in 2012. His recent transfer to the UAE generated speculation about his motivations; Shelvey publicly denied claims that his move was purely financially driven, responding amid viral attention to a missed penalty shortly after his transfer. This move marks a new chapter in his career, coming after years playing in some of Europe’s top leagues.
