Former Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died at the age of 48. The Austria international made no competitive appearances in the final season of his career before hanging up his gloves aged 39 after 22-years in the game.



Prior to signing for the Reds, Manninger enjoyed success in spells with Juventus, where he lifted a Serie A title, and part of Arsenal’s 1998 double-winning side. Manninger’s first club Red Bull Salzburg confirmed news of his untimely death.

“We mourn the loss of our former goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who tragically died in a traffic accident,” read a club statement. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
