Former Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay has emerged as the odds-on favourite to become the new West Bromwich Albion manager following a key development in the club’s hiring process. Bookmakers have slashed Ramsay’s odds after it emerged that West Brom’s hierarchy have stepped up their interest in the 33-year-old, who is currently in charge of MLS side Minnesota United.
West Brom are searching for a new boss after the dismissal of Ryan Mason, whose tenure ended amid poor results and a slide towards the Championship relegation battle. Mason’s departure has prompted an intensive recruitment drive, with a number of names initially linked to the vacancy, but Ramsay’s candidacy has rapidly strengthened in recent days.
Ramsay, regarded as one of the most highly rated young coaches in the game, previously spent three years on the coaching staff at Manchester United, working under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag. His reputation for tactical detail and player development helped him secure the Minnesota United job in 2024, where he became the youngest permanent head coach in MLS history.
West Brom are understood to have admired Ramsay for some time, having considered him during their previous managerial search. The latest shift in the betting markets is said to reflect fresh encouragement that a deal could be struck, despite Ramsay being under contract in the United States.
While other candidates remain in the frame, Ramsay’s growing prominence in discussions – combined with the betting move that now makes him favourite – suggests he is at the forefront of West Brom’s thinking. The club’s board are believed to be leaning towards a progressive, forward-thinking appointment, and Ramsay fits that profile as they seek a long-term solution to stabilise performances and revive their push up the Championship table.
